Advanced Explosives Recognition Training

On May 14, 2011 I participated in a training class in Tulare, California put on by the Central Valley Arson Investigators, the Tulare Bomb Squad, the City of Tulare Fire Department, and the California Conference of Arson Investigators. I'm a member of the later organization. The training is intended for bomb and arson investigators, public safety first responders and prosecutors.

The focus of the training this year was Home Made Explosives (HME). The morning was spent in the classroom covering the materials and methods used by bomb builders, blast effects, recognition of bomb making precursor chemicals, and case studies.

The afternoon was spent on the range where a wide variety of explosives were demonstrated with time between for participants to examine and analyze the effects.
